Day to Day: Junee Roundhouse Museum

I love being a tourist in my own town. I've been to the Junee Roundhouse Museum a couple of times now. I've taken both my sisters here on separate occasions. Maybe that's because I'm projecting my likes onto them, or something like that.

It is still a working roundhouse and locos are still serviced there.

The volunteers and staff are really friendly and are always up for a chat. On one occasion they even let us in to look at the old buses.

They have a model railway too, but I don't have any decent photos of that.

The size of the locos and carriages is quite amazing, you don't really get how big they are until you're standing right next to them.

And this is the best I could do for catching a nice snap of the actual turntable. Sorry about the angle, but I didn't have a tripod so I was leaning my camera against a fence.

It brings back many memories of catching trains to and from high school. A real favourite was on the very rare occasion, we would get a red rattler. We would always put our feet in the doors to keep them open during summer.

They also have carriages from the 'Fish' and 'Chips' which my grandfather used to catch to and from work.

I do have an appreciation of old stuff and trains, so I quite like visiting the Roundhouse.
